1214. iya. This suffix is virtually identical

इय iya. This suffix is virtually identical with the preceding, being but another written form of the same thing. It is used only after two consonants, where the direct addition of य yawould create a combination of difficult utterance. It has the same variety of accent with ya. Thus:

a. With accent íya (= ía or ): for example, abhríya (also abhriyáfrom the clouds (abhrá), kṣatríya having authority (kṣatrá), yajñíya reverend (yajñá), hotríya libational(hótrā), amitríya inimical (amítra).

b. With accent iyá (= ía or ): for example, agriyá (also agríyaforemost (ágra), indriyá Indra's (later, sense: índra), kṣetriyá of the field (kṣétra).

c. With accent on the primitive: çrótriya learned (çrótra), ṛ́tviya (also ṛtvíyain season (ṛtú).
